Claire pointed out that I take pretty blurry pictures. This is something I hadn’t noticed. But Claire – you’ve got a point. Not only are these photos a lil blurry, they are weirdly monochrome (that is *not* the color of our dining room table), and also seem to showcase the slightly sticky veneer that our table is currently sporting. Oh well. This is the lace scarf that I have been working on for ages. I started it on President’s Day and foolishly thought I would finish it that day or soon thereafter. I got the pattern from Knitty.com, which is sort of like porn for knitting enthusiasts (non-patriarchal porn, of course). The pattern is called Branching Out and I think it’s supposed to look a little bit like leaves. The yarn is sport-weight merino wool, and the color is pretty awesome. At first I was afraid to bring this scarf to work with me (I knit with some ladies at lunch time), because I only learned to knit this winter and I was afraid my knitting teacher, Lucy, would have some words to say about the myriad mistakes that I didn’t even try to undo (you can’t really tell there are errors, I think, but there are). But she was very supportive and even seemed a little impressed. This project was slightly outside of my skill level, but now I feel pretty comfortable taking on lace and I’m already psyched about my next project (also from Knitty… I’ll get to that soon). But the reason this one is taking for-freakin-ever is that it requires a lot of concentration and I am likely to put it off until I have a chunk of distraction-free time, which pretty much never happens. Still, I’m almost there. Once I block it I think the pattern will lay more evenly, and I’ll post some photos of me looking dazzling in the scarf.
